What motivated you to join the ScholarX program?

Mainly due to the exposure that we can achieve. We live in a country which is far away from the technological revolutions of the world. And it is true that only a few people living in the western world would recognize it by name. Hence this was a really good opportunity as undergraduates to speak to someone who has gone through the same path that we are going through and achieve great heights which would be immensely helpful for us to shape our lives.

Your Top 3 learnings from the ScholarX program?

To be specific and simple on this question,

  • Need to have a clear idea of what you want to become (Planning and having objectives)
  • Commitment to the tasks that you want to achieve
  • Balancing the life

What are your plans after graduation?

My idea is to pursue a postgraduate degree related to Computer Science.

It’s 2029, what are you up to?

Possibly, I would be lecturing there is ample time to complete my postgraduate degree.

You have an unlimited pot of money. How would you invest this to improve the education system in Sri Lanka?

Currently, it is around 33,000 students who are able to go to government universities in the country. The term free education is misused and used it as a benefit that is given to a selected set of people. If I am having ample amount of money, I would allocate enough infrastructure in government universities for students who are not eligible to enter there from A/L results in the intake to study freely but has an interest in the field, to come and study in a loan based procedure. The main reason that we cannot expand the intake of universities is due to the lack of infrastructure to accommodate the students.

Any advice to prospective ScholarX participants?

Each and every mentor in the program is awesome. Sometimes you might not able to pick the one with the same path that you follow. But it does not matter, while you have the opportunity, grab it. Because life is a long journey filled with lots of experiences and there are lots of things to learn.
