Meet Sri Lankan Researcher- Rasika Eranda Ashoka Dissanayake

What are you currently working on or worked on before?
I am currently working on the Development of adsorbents for wastewater treatment at the National Institute of Fundamental Studies, Sri Lanka.
Safe drinking water is a decaying source in the world since most of the natural water bodies are contaminated with toxic pollutants. This is mainly due to the unsafe methods of discarding wastewater. To address this problem, scientists should pay more attention to develop cost-effective easy methods for wastewater treatment.
I also have an interest in the field of experimental chemistry that motivated me to become a researcher. Hence I chose this research topic as my major research area.
You can find my publications here.
What’s one of your biggest personal achievements so far?
I was selected to do a part of my research in the Institute of Physical Chemistry, Faculty of Chemistry, University of Goettingen, Germany.
In terms of finding the best inspiration for my work, I get this by reading up and learning from biographies of a talented and humble scientists inspire my work always.
What lessons would you share with a budding researcher?
- 1st lesson is that you should read a lot related to your research.
- You should always try to summarize what you read and keep notes.
- Work smart and hard both will pay back big time.
- Help each and every individual to achieve their scientific goals.
- Criticisms are a hidden blessing
