ScholarX Class of 2019 | SX19
The Graduation Ceremony for the ScholarX class of 2019 was held on Tuesday, 29 October at Hatch Works. We had the pleasure of having Alagan Mahalingam as the keynote speaker for the event who shared his inspirational entrepreneurial journey with the graduating class. The event brought together our mentees from across the island from Colombo to Belihuloya to Badulla under one roof.
ScholarX is an exclusive 3-month program aimed at providing mentoring support to a selected pool of High Potential undergraduate students based in Sri Lanka ideally by a Sri Lankan expat currently engaged with one of the world’s top universities or Fortune 500 companies. It’s our free premium mentoring platform by Sri Lankans for Sri Lankans working towards creating a culture of knowledge and expertise sharing without the limitation of geographical borders.
For the 2019 cohort, we had 6 exceptional mentors based in the UK, US, Canada and Australia who generously volunteered their time, including:
19 Sri Lankan student mentees were selected into the program after a competitive application process representing a number of universities.
Mentees were then paired up with their respective mentors of choice. The program administrators made a significant effort to match each other’s interests and areas of expertise for outcome alignment. This proved to be a challenging task given the limited amount of mentors we had for the inaugural offering.
Overall, the mentees rated the ScholarX program well. Our end of program survey revealed the following results - demonstrating improved skills and capability amongst our program participants. The ScholarX program also received a 100 Net Promoter Score (NPS) — in that all 19 ScholarX participants would recommend the program to their peers with no hesitation.
